Joey Waldon was born in Peoria, Illinois in 1955, but has lived in the State of Texas since the age of 16.
Joey became a full time artist in 1978 after leaving the Journalism department at Southwest Texas State.
A cartoonist and writer on the school paper at Southwest Texas State, Joey naturally progressed to magazine illustration, T-shirt design, greeting card publication and advertising, earning 2 ADDY awards for billboard art and concept.
According to Waldon, “having lived in the Siamese twin cities of poverty and destitution for the last ten years has helped cultivate the riches of my soul and the power of my faith.” Joey Waldon’s reputation as a truly original artist with passion and dedication is growing rapidly. In addition to painting Waldon also draws, sculpts and writes.
Joey Waldon’s work is infused with enlightenment and a loving simplicity, giving it an iconic feel, which becomes a mantra for inner peace.
A self taught painter, currently attending the Art School of Hard Knocks, in pursuit of a Doctorate, Joey Waldon considers himself to be an expressionist, a primitive contemporary, and an outsider looking inward, a surreal estate agent.”
“I paint logos of feelings. My interests in the personal, spiritual, and political truths of life are the guiding forces of my subject matter and narrative.”
